Prepare appliances before moving day
Disconnect electricity, water, and gas through a qualified person when the connection requires it. Drain hoses and remove food, shelves, racks, and other loose contents.
Refrigerators, freezers, and air-conditioning equipment may contain refrigerant and need specific handling. Identify the appliance type when you call rather than placing it into a mixed pile.
Protect data on electronics
Back up anything you need, sign out of accounts, and erase personal information from computers, phones, tablets, and storage devices. Remove removable media before the equipment leaves your control.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency advises removing batteries because they may need separate recycling. Lithium-ion batteries and devices containing them should not go into household trash or recycling bins.
Keep categories visible
Group large appliances, electronics, and loose batteries separately. Keep screens intact and protect sharp or broken edges.
A clean inventory helps the crew confirm what fits the pickup scope and what needs another disposal path.
